Martin works within the forms of lecture/performance, video, installation, publication, relational projects and civic propositions. Whilst his work is intended to unsettle systems beyond those of the art world, his conceptual motivations pivot on issues relating to social politics and cultural history. His methodology creates a reality wherein audiences are complicit and responsibility is shared. Martin’s most recent solo shows include Tokonoma at MELK (2018) and Oslo Kunstforening (2019). Martin has exhibited in group shows internationally, most recently at Høstutstillingen (2021), UKS ‘Free Your Modernity’ (2018) and Norsk Teknisk Museum ‘Making Sense Together’. Martin studied Fine Art at RMIT in Melbourne (first class Honours), and completed his MFA at the Norwegian National Academy of Art in Oslo in 2017. In 2002 he received a post-graduate diploma in dramatic art direction from the VCA in Melbourne. He has previously directed experimental performance, theatre, film and television. Martin’s works have been shown at film and performance festivals internationally. Alongside his artistic practice Martin has published essays and reviews, sat on award and grant panels, worked as a researcher and taught.
